At FootbAI we’re all about using technology to improve soccer performance, but for us the most important thing is emotion. Here are the 3 football memories of Martin, our founder.
“My best football memories are linked to my 2 favorite teams: Girondins de Bordeaux and the French national team. I’ve chosen here the 3 moments that gave me the most emotion.
My first memory is the 2007 Coupe de la Ligue final. The Girondins were playing the great Olympique Lyonnais, and I was lucky enough for my father to take me to the Stade de France to watch the match. The match was very close until Henrique scored the winning goal in the 89th minute and followed it up with a mythical celebration. It was at that moment that I knew that football would stay with me for the rest of my life, because these emotions are so unique and special.
My second memory is another final, that of the 2013 Coupe de France, where Bordeaux faced the surprising Evian Thonon Gaillard. I was still lucky to be able to go to the Stade de France again to see this match. The Girondins twice led 1-0, then 2-1, and with 5 minutes to go it was 2-2. The tension was at its height when our striker Cheick Diabaté scored in the 89th minute to win us the cup. The scenario of the match combined with the taste of a trophy after a few years of declining sporting results for the club was exceptional. I was also a fervent supporter of Cheick Diabaté, whose atypical style could provoke criticism. Watching him win the club’s last title to date was an unforgettable moment.
The third memory will certainly be the one with which most readers will be able to identify. It was Mbappé’s second goal in the 2022 World Cup final. Like all French people, I was completely disillusioned by the first 70 minutes of the match. It looked like France were going to lose without even trying, with technical errors never before seen in the French team. That 5-minute equaliser was totally unreal, and even if it didn’t end well, it’s still one of my fondest soccer memories.”
